Recruiting

Florida State added another blue-chip prospect to its 2025 recruiting class on Tuesday, with wide receiver CJ Wiley picking the Seminoles in a shocker:

Wiley visited Florida State for the first time in January and made it to Tallahassee for the largest official visit weekend of Mike Norvell’s tenure last weekend. 247 had multiple crystal balls predicting the 6’4’’ rising senior would pick Georgia, but WR coach Ron Dugans found a way to turn him away from his home school and towards the garnet and gold.

Wiley started his junior season outside the top 300, but securing 68 receptions and 1,473 yards while running a sub-11 second 100-meter time created a meteoric rise in his recruitment.

All six members of FSU’s class are rated four stars or higher by the 247Sports Composite Rankings:

  • QUARTERBACK: 4 star Tramell Jones Jr (FL)
  • WIDE RECEIVER: 4 star CJ Wiley (GA)
  • OFFENSIVE LINEMAN: 5 star Solomon Thomas (FL)
  • DEFENSIVE LINEMAN: 4 star Javion Hilson (FL)
  • DEFENSIVE TACKLE: 4 star Kevin Wynn (GA)
  • LINEBACKER: 4 star Ethan Pritchard (FL)

Four-star Joshua Moore is set to announce his decision today after pushing it back from yesterday, with the Pembroke Pines receiver deciding between the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles (and considered to be leaning towards the former).

Here’s a nice little bragging point you can pull out the next time you want to be petty towards your Florida and Miami friends — Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium was ranked as the No. 9 toughest place to play in the upcoming College Football 25 video game, while UF is at No. 10 and the Hurricanes are nowhere to be seen:

Florida State softball added another transfer on Tuesday, with Annabelle Widra transferring in from Auburn:

This past season, Widra started 38 games for Auburn. During her 49 total appearances, she was a true utility player, seeing time at third base, second base, shortstop, pitcher and designated player. Widra held a .259 BA with 18 R, 33 H, 5 HR, 10 BB for her two years on the Plains. In the circle as a right handed pitcher, she had a 2.77 ERA, 14-8 W/L, 121.1 IP, 121 H, 66 R, 20 BB, 113 SO and a .249 B/AVG over two seasons.

Coming out of high school in Hoover, AL, Widra was the 2021 Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year, and nominated three times prior. She was the No. 8 prospect and No. 6 infielder by Extra Inning Softball.

Former Florida State men’s swimming and diving athlete Julio Horrego has been named to the Honduras Olympic team:

Horrego, who carried the flag for Honduras at the 2020 Opening Ceremony in Tokyo, will be racing in his second Olympics. He earned his spot by turning in the highest number of men’s World Aquatic points at 818 in his federation after clocking his best in the 200-meter breast at 2:14.15 at the 2024 TYR Pro Swim Series in San Antonio.

Horrego has represented his country at the World Aquatics Championships six times since 2019. In 2022, Horrego took home two silver medals at the Central American and Caribbean Championships, placing second in the 50 breast (28.39) and 100 breast (1:03.07).

A member of the FSU men’s swimming and diving team from 2017-19, Horrego holds the 10th-fastest time in program history in the 200 breast (1:57.96).

In addition to Horrego, Varjasi (Germany) and Terebo (France) will also be in Paris. A total of 28 athletes with ties to FSU swimming and diving have made the Olympics, representing 20 different countries since 1972. The Seminoles have been represented at every Games since 1996 and also contributed athletes in 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1988.

Florida State womens’ golf senior Alice Hodge and sophom*ore All-American Lottie Woad have been named to the Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC):

It marks the second consecutive year Hodge has earned the prestigious academic honor and the first time in her academic and college golf career that Woad has been named to the CSC All-District Academic Team.

Hodge is one of the most decorated academic All-Stars in program history. In addition to earning her degree finance from Florida State University in 2024, Hodge has been named to the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll (three times), the WGCA All-American Scholar Athlete Team (three times), to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team (three times) and earned CSC Academic All-District Honors in both 2023 and 2024. She earned Florida State President’s List Honors three times and Dean’s List Honors four times during her career as a Seminole.

Hodge is one of four players in Florida State history to be named to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team in each of her four seasons as a Seminole.

Woad, who is currently the No. 1 ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, was named to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team for the second time in her career in 2024 and was named to the 2023 ACC Academic Honor Roll as well to the 2023 WGCA All-American Scholar Athlete Team. Woad earned Florida State President’s List Honors in the fall of 2023 and Dean’s List Honors in the spring of 2024.

Woad was named as a First-team All-American, was named the ACC Golfer of the Year, and won the championship of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur on April 3.

Bond’s Seminoles earned a 3.892 team GPA during the 2024 competitive spring season – the highest in program history for a semester. As a team, the Seminoles earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.629 during the 2023 fall and 2024 spring semesters.

Florida State was ranked among the nation’s top 20 for the entire 2023-24 season and finished in the top 12 of the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in school history – with six of those top-12 finishes coming under Bond.
