It's time for the weekly report. To keep the community aware of our activities and updated on events, here is the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office Weekly Report for Monday, May 27, 2024, through Sunday, June 2, 2024, and below is a summary of some of the calls. Some activities may have already been shared via a post.

Tuesday, May 28, 2024 (5:54 AM), the transport officer and a detention officer left the county to pick up a male inmate in Kleberg County. The inmate, 53 years old and of Fredericksburg, TX, was picked up and transported to the Gillespie County Jail.

Wednesday, May 30, 2024 (3:38 PM), a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of East US Highway 290 and Wildflower Hills for a traffic violation. Upon contact, the deputy learned the male driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver, 68 years old and of Fredericksburg, was arrested and charged with Driving While License Invalid with Previous Convictions.

Thursday, May 30, 2024 (3:52 AM), the transport officer and a detention officer left the county to pick up an inmate in Paris, TX. The inmate, 24 years old and of Laredo, TX, was picked up and transported to the Gillespie County Jail.

Thursday, May 30, 2024 (7:51 AM), two detention officers left the county with four inmates and transported them to Kerr County for court and then back to the jail.

Thursday, May 30, 2024 (8:06 PM), a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of North Ranch Road 1623 for a traffic violation. While contacting the occupants (male driver and female passenger), the deputy detected an odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and the deputy found drug paraphernalia and a bag containing approximately 346 grams of marijuana that the male admitted was his. The male, 25 years old and of Blanco, TX, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana <= 5 lbs. > 4 oz.

Friday, May 31, 2024 (1:01 AM), a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West US Highway 290 and Doss-Spring Creek Road for a defective equipment violation. While contacting the occupants (male driver and male passenger), the deputy detected an odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle with the driver admitting they had just smoked marijuana in the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and the deputy found multiple items of drug paraphernalia and approximately 8.37 grams of marijuana. The deputy also learned the driver, 31 years old and of Bay City, TX, had a warrant of out Matagorda County. He was arrested on the warrant (MTRP – Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle) and the marijuana was confiscated.

Friday, May 31, 2024 (10:21 AM), the transport officer left the county to pick up an inmate in Blanco County. The inmate, 31 years old and of Johnson City, TX, was picked up and transported to the Gillespie County Jail.

Saturday, June 1, 2024 (7:23 PM), a deputy responded to a motorcycle crash on South Ranch Road 1623 at the Albert Ice House. Upon arrival, the deputy learned the motorcycle operator was leaving Albert Ice House and tried to execute a “wheelie” and then struck a newly constructed culvert across the roadway, causing the operator to be ejected from the motorcycle. The operator was evaluated medically and determined to not have suffered any serious injuries. While speaking with the operator about the crash the deputy noticed the odor of alcohol emitting from his person as well as his admission to having been drinking. After further investigation, the deputy formed the opinion that he was intoxicated. Subsequently, the operator, 66 years old and of Modesto, CA, was placed under arrest for the offense of Driving While Intoxicated.

Saturday, June 1, 2024 (10:08 PM), a deputy observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of travel toward the deputy while on West US Highway 290. After conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle, the deputy learned that the female driver had been drinking alcohol. After further investigation, the deputy formed the opinion that she was intoxicated. Subsequently, the driver, 67 years old and of San Antonio, TX, was placed under arrest for the offense of Driving While Intoxicated.

Sunday, June 2, 2024 (12:14 AM), a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West US Highway 290 and Grand Oaks after observing that the vehicle was displaying an unreadable license plate. The deputy also observed at least three other equipment violations on the vehicle while contacting the female driver. While speaking with the driver, the deputy observed multiple indicators that provided him with a reasonable belief that the driver had narcotic contraband within the vehicle. When asked, the driver denied the deputy’s request to search the vehicle, so the K9 handler and K9 Maverick were requested to assist with an open-air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Maverick provided a positive alert to the odor of narcotics within the vehicle. After a search of the vehicle, it was learned the driver had concealed a methamphetamine smoking pipe with a small amount of methamphetamine concealed within her left pants leg. The driver, 37 years old and of Junction, TX, was placed under arrest for the offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All arrested individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
