How do I get in touch with the Faculty Housing Office?

We’re located at S-220, (2nd floor), of Main Building, in the Dean of Strategic Planning & Academic Resources office. You may also contact us by email: fachouseoffice@vassar.edu, campus mail box 714, or by telephone at (845) 437-7970.

How do I find out if I am eligible for Faculty Housing?

The criteria for eligibility are noted in the Vassar College Faculty Handbook under Policies Governing College Housing on the Dean of Faculty website beginning on page 65.

You may also call the Dean of Faculty office to see if you are eligible at (845) 437-5300.

When and where is the list of available apartments for the upcoming year posted?

The list of available apartments will be posted on April 1st or the next business day of each year. Postings will be displayed on the faculty housing website.

What about apartments that become available during the “off-cycle?”

Apartments that become available off-cycle will be posted on the faculty housing website.

How do I pay my rent? Is there a Security deposit due?

Rent is paid by payroll deduction on or about the 25th of each month. It is deducted in the same month in which it occurs, i.e., September rent, September deduction. Rent is not deducted in advance. There is no security deposit due.

Can I move out early? Do I have to pay rent until the end of the lease?

You may move out mid-lease. 60 days written notice is required if you decide to terminate the lease early.The rent deductions will stop when you move out and the keys have been returned to the Faculty Housing Office.The Faculty Housing Manager will notify payroll to discontinue the deductions.

When do I have to notify the Faculty Housing Office that I am interested in renewing my lease?

A lease renewal will automatically be sent to you by March 1st asking your intentions for the upcoming year. If there is going to be a rent increase for the new lease term, you will also be notified at this time.

What will my mailing address be?

Mail can be sent to your off-campus residence.Please ask our office for your correct mailing address before you move in.

Am I allowed to have pets?

Yes, pets are allowed. All pet waste must be cleaned up by the owner and pets must be leashed when out of the apartment.See the Pet Policy.

When I move in, do I have to pay for utilities?

You will be in 1 of 4 situations:

  1. Both heat and electricity will be included in your rent.
  2. Electricity needs to be turned on in your name as of the date you’re moving in and you will be billed directly from the utility company. Heat will be supplied by the College.
  3. Electricity and natural gas for cooking need to be turned on in your name as of your move-in date and you will be billed directly from the utilities company. Heat will be supplied by the College.
  4. Orchard Lane Apartments: Electricity needs to be turned on in your name as of the date you’re moving in and you will be billed directly from the utility company, (hot water and heat are electric and not supplied by the College.)

If you are responsible for electric and/or cooking gas, you must provide your account number to the faculty housing office after your service is turned on.

Cable or Wifi are not included in the rent and are the responsibility of the tenant. Current providers in the area are Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) and Verizon Fios. Please check the company website for availability at your location.

If you are unsure, please contact the Faculty Housing Office before move-in to find out which category you’re in.

If I need to get utilities turned on, where do I call?

Central Hudson Gas & Electric at (845) 452-2700.

Work requests are completed by Facilities Operations employees.

To submit a non-urgent work request, please use the online TMA request form (the link is located on the Facilities Operations website). For an emergency repair, during weekdays from 8:00–4:00 please contact Service Response at (845) 437-5999, for evenings, weekends, and dates the campus is closed, please contact the CRC at (845) 437-5221, the Troubleshooter, (on-call 24/7), will be notified.
