When urban space is limited, what should be the first priority?Roads for cars or lanes for bikes? Parking spaces or green spaces? Pedestrian pathways or business zones?Along with the Institut für Stadtbauwesen und Stadtverkehr der RWTH Aachen University , we have embarked on an exciting project, researching how to bring together private and public spaces and coordinating them for more efficient use. "Coordinated Management of Parking Spaces in Cities (KOMPAKT)." is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMDV) as part of the mFUND program, is a collaborative effort with us, the Stadt Aachen and anny, and Aachener Parkhaus GmbH.One of our primary objectives is to link sensor data with the municipal regulatory authority to develop an effective alert system. Additionally, we're dedicated developing solutions to detect parked bicycles or electric micro-vehicles using our optical sensors.We are very excited about the results of this project and its potential to revolutionize parking management in urban areas! #mFUND #Parkingmanagement #SmartCities #KOMPAKT

Once again this year, the Association of German Interior Architects (bdia) awarded prizes to the most innovative and outstanding products submitted by companies in its sponsoring group. One of two special prizes in the "Sustainability" category in 2023 goes to Dornbracht ReCrafted."Is it worth repairing old fittings? Is it possible to label a high-priced, chrome-plated product/design as sustainable? The jury discussed and weighed up intensively. Yes, the concept of "ReCrafted MEM" by Dornbracht was recognized by the jury as particularly exemplary and forward-looking. Compared to a new product, approx. 40% of CO2 emissions are saved. Interesting comments on this reuse problem. The easiest way is to dismantle the facade elements, load them on a truck and send them to Ukraine. Temporary storage is nonsense here, we know the supply AND the demand, the transport costs remain - but the CH government has committed billions for the reconstruction of the Ukrainian cities - just call them up in Berne! But beware of corruption - in which Ukraine is one of Europe's leader. You have to follow the free reuse up to the end. The trick is not new - the 'old' Nestlé facade in Vevey adorns many school buildings in ex-Yugoslavia today - war damage repaired with high quality goods (and PLEASE do NOT call it upcycling - it is common sense).
